What are you, an owl?

MLB Network's Harold Reynolds was just leaving the visitors' clubhouse at Citi Field when Josh Beckett called out to him.

"Hey, Harold," Beckett said, his voice casual. "Have you talked to him yet?"

"To who?" Reynolds asked.

"What are you, an owl?"

Such is the life when there's a day game after a night game. Mark Kotsay, one of the few players in the locker room at 8:45 a.m., even said, "What, you guys think you're going to get someone to talk this early?"

Then again, guys find ways to get going. When Kevin Youkilis asked Chris Carter if he was going to grab a Red Bull to get himself going, Carter shot back, "I've already had two!"

But the owl joke -- the new fascination of Beckett and Brad Penny -- wasn't just a byproduct of the early hour.

"This is going to be their thing -- like all season," Kotsay said.
